“You’re after something. Is it revenge? Money? Or is it something else?” (Yep; it’s Star Wars quotes time! I know – you’ve got a good feeling about this, right?)

These questions were posed by Qi’Ra in one of the trailers for Solo: A Star Wars Story, which debuts in theaters on May 25th, 2018.

The moment I saw the trailer, just like that, the nostalgia and emotional power of the series that I’ve loved for decades came rushing back.

One would think that beloved films from childhood might mean less as one ages, but it’s quite the opposite for me (and many others) when it comes to Star Wars: We want to believe in hope and heroes; we want to believe that goodness will prevail over dark and menacing leaders who give rise to evil empires.

Despite consistent efforts to make Star Wars Day a paid holiday, we aren’t there yet, so once again I’m embarking on the next best thing – getting paid to write about Star Wars. This year, I’m sharing Star Wars quotes meant to inspire the rebels among us – fearless leaders or quiet soldiers – these are the heroes who power change and revolutions.

Star Wars quotes for the rebels among us

  1. “The greatest teacher, failure is.” (Yoda): No matter how prepared we believe we are, or how we think things should go in theory, it is usually failure and disappointment that provide the greatest teachings and allow for the most growth.
  2. “Why are you helping me?”
“Because it’s the right thing to do.” (Poe Dameron and Finn): To put a new twist on an old favorite, never mistake the kindness of rebels for weakness.
  3. “Is that possible?” “I never ask that question until after we’ve done it.” (Rey and Han Solo): Never tell a rebel the odds – they aren’t driven by those. They’re driven by a sense of purpose and a belief in a greater good.
  4. “We have hope. Rebellions are built on hope.” (Jyn Erso): The fictional characters in Star Wars resonate with viewers because they stand for the principles that we wish to see in our leaders. And if Star Wars has taught us anything, it’s that heroes can be found in the most unlikely among us.
  5. “Make ten men feel like a hundred.” (Cassian Andor): If you’re on the side of the resistance, you’re usually on the side with less firepower and fewer soldiers. Maximizing the strengths of your able crew is a critical ability when it comes to attaining success.
  6. “What is it they’ve sent us?” “Hope.” (Princess Leia and an unidentified Resistance fighter): During the final scene in Rogue One, Princess Leia murmurs the word that rebellions are born upon: Hope.

As a bonus, please enjoy this incredible mash-up of Rogue One and A New Hope, which delivers a chilling reminder of why Darth Vader was the stuff that childhood nightmares were made of – I am obsessed with it, and have played it on a loop too many times to count.
